A Refurbished Laptop Computer – why buy one?
By Twinty Karat
A refurbished laptop computer is one that has been returned to the store by the customer for one reason or the other, within the 90-day guarantee. Since it has been out of the box and possibly been used by the customer, the store cannot sell this laptop as a new computer. Once the laptop comes back to the store, the technicians make several quality checks. If the computer checks out okay, it is sold as a refurbished laptop computer. When you purchase one of these computers, you may be getting a new laptop computer that is less than 90-days old.
If you are buying from a company like Dell, their refurbished laptop computers may be ones that have a nick, scratch or a button missing. They fix the problem, and resell the laptop computer. If you are surfing the internet checking out websites advertising refurbished laptop computers for sale, but be careful. Make sure you check out the site thoroughly. You need to make sure that a legitimate person, not an unreliable business, owns the website. Make sure you ask if they have any type of warranty on the laptop computer just in case it quits working right after you get the computer.
You can also purchase a refurbished laptop computer from auction websites such as eBay. Before you bid on the laptop computer, check the sellers ratings and any reviews they might have. It would be wise to purchase items from a seller with a 95 and above rating. You know that they got that high of a rating by being a reputable seller.
When you purchase a refurbished laptop computer you will be getting a laptop computer at about half the price of a new laptop computer. Buying a refurbished laptop computer is a great way to get a computer if you cannot afford the price of a new one. Sometimes you can get lucky and get some extra add-ons when you get a refurbished laptop and you still are paying less than a new one, sometimes much less.
Most reputable sellers of refurbished laptops will offer you at least a 90-day warranty on the laptop computer. Another thing you need to check out if you are buying from a website online is how long the company has been in business. If they have been in business less than six months, you should be wary of buying from this website. They may be a company that stays around for several months and then moves on, changing the name of their website.
Make sure the refurbished laptop computer you are purchasing actually suits your needs. There are so many of these laptops offered for sale, so you have plenty of choices and do not have to take the first one you see. Treat this laptop purchase just as you would if you were buying a brand new one. You are making an investment although it is not as much as a new laptop computer would cost.
