Advantages of Notebook or Laptop Computers over PCs or Macs

In this era of technology when computers are everywhere almost everyone is well aware of the importance of the computer. Nowadays a computer can be found in almost every house in the United States. Some homes, like mine, have many computers, both laptop and PCs or Macs. I still have three desktop computers and a laptop. In addition to that, I just acquired a Mac laptop to replace my five year-old laptop.

Considering the advantages of portability and mobility, notebook computers have been in great demand the past few years. This demand has undoubtedly grown considerably since the prices for laptops have gone down so much. Also possibly adding to the growth is the need for new college students to get a laptop if they don’t already have one.

Costs of notebook computers have come down drastically the past couple of years or so. Just two or three years ago it was common to pay upwards of two thousand dollars, or more, for a laptop with decent memory and hard drive capacity. But now you can find laptops from about $300 or less (on sale) and even then, they may not be bare-bone laptops.

Notebooks or laptop computers are small, compact, portable computers and now there is some fashion involved with some of them. My sister has a couple of Mac laptops, both of which have nice designer “skins” which really dress up the look. Even stick-on decals are available that don’t look cheap, and add a nice touch to your laptop.

Depending on the model and size, laptop computers weight between two to seventeen pounds. An externally connected adapter is used for running laptops from the normal ac form your electrical outlet. They run on a single battery or a battery pack otherwise when using them away from the house or office where no electricity is available. Notebook battery packs need recharging after using them for a while on their batteries, which may be used for up to a few hours, depending on the particular laptop.

Laptop computers have many advantages over personal computers. A notebook computer is a particularly lightweight machine as compared to a personal computer. One major difference between the personal computer and notebook computer is the display. Different technologies and techniques are sometimes used to produce display screens on laptops that are very lightweight.

Notebook computers come with a built in keyboard and touchpad. An external keyboard or mouse may also be used if desired, instead of the built in components. Notebook computers normally have an LCD display and use a different memory module from that of a desktop computer. The features of the screens vary from notebook to notebook. Most display screens for notebook computers now have a resolution as good as desktop displays.

Laptop computers or notebooks are usually capable of performing the same tasks as those of desktop computers. Generally notebook computers have the same components that are used in desktop computers, but they are smaller and better optimized for mobility and efficient use of power.

One of the big drawbacks of laptop or notebook computers is that they are less powerful than desktop computers in the same price range. Notebook computers with very powerful specifications may cost a lot compared to the cheaper models. But in most cases, those high-end laptops are not needed by the majority of users.
